Meg White

Megan Martha " Meg " White ( born December 10, 1974 in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan) is an American drummer, famous for the rock duo The White Stripes.

Life

Meg White grew up in the Detroit area on with her parents and her sister Heather.

In the early 1990s, Meg White worked as a bartender at a restaurant near Detroit, where she met the musician and songwriter John Anthony Gillis. They married on 21 September 1996. Gillis took her last name and became known under the name of Jack White. Jack was playing in a duo with a drummer. When the band broke up, Jack White came in 1997 with the idea to put Meg on the drums, though she had no experience. In Jack's words: " It felt liberating and refreshing. "

On 24 March 2000, Meg and Jack were divorced, but worked until they disbanded in early 2011 on each other. Since May 2009 Meg White is the guitarist Jackson Smith, son of Patti Smith and Fred "Sonic" Smith, married.

The White Stripes

Meg and Jack White first called themselves The Red and White Stripes by Meg's favorite peppermint candies. The White Stripes were rumored founded on 14 July 1997. She first appeared they had on August 15, 1997 at the Gold Dollar in Detroit, at an event for newcomers, in which only 10 to 15 people were present.
