Meg Whitman
Margaret " Meg " Cushing Whitman (* August 4, 1956 in Cold Spring Harbor, New York ) is an American manager and billionaire. Since September 22, 2011 she is CEO and president of Hewlett -Packard. From 1998 to 2008 she was Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors on eBay. She ran in 2010 for governor in California.
Life
Training
Whitman began in 1974 to study medicine at Princeton University, but soon the major to economics. After the bachelor's degree in 1977 she obtained in 1979 a Master of Business Administration at Harvard University. Whitman is married to a neurosurgeon and has two children.
In the economic
1979 Whitman began at Procter & Gamble, where she worked until 1981 in brand management. From 1981 to 1989 she worked for the consulting firm Bain & Company. She then moved to Walt Disney as senior vice president for marketing. In 1992 she moved to the shoe manufacturer Stride Ride Shoes in Lexington. From 1995 to 1997 she worked as Managing Director for the flower delivery Florist's Transworld Delivery.
By the time she was recruited in 1998 by headhunters to eBay, she was general manager of the toy manufacturer Hasbro.
As Whitman CEO of eBay was founded in March 1998, the company under the name Auctionweb founded by Pierre Omidyar in 1995 had 30 employees. In September 1998, she took eBay public. Of the initially rapid rising prices also they benefited as a shareholder and was regarded as the first billionaire from the Internet age. In March 2008, they handed over the position as CEO of eBay John Donahoe her successor. At the end of 2008, they put their posts on the boards of eBay, Procter & Gamble and DreamWorks.
On September 22, 2011, she broke from Léo Apotheker as CEO and president of Hewlett -Packard.
In politics
Whitman is since 2007 the Republican Party and supported in the Republican primaries for the 2008 Presidential Election Mitt Romney first, followed by the Republican presidential candidate John McCain. On 9 February 2009, she founded a working group for their candidacy for gubernatorial election in the state of California in November 2010, when the incumbent Arnold Schwarzenegger no longer allowed to compete .. On September 22, 2009, she gave her official candidacy and eventually won on 8 June 2010 with 64.2 % of the votes cast, the Republican primary clearly.
