Mega-Ampere Spherical Tokamak

The Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak ( MAST) is a research facility for fusion experiments in the British science center Culham. The work carried out under a project funded by the EU project experiments have been running since 1999. Forerunners were the experiments at the Small Tight Aspect Ratio Tokamak (START), which took place in the period 1991-1998.

Main objectives of the MAST experiments are

  • Conducting studies to obtain a better understanding of tokamak devices and to improve the ITER design
  • Investigating the possibilities of a spherical tokamak in energy
