Megdovas

Overlooking the Tavropos Reservoir ( Lake Plastira ) at the headwaters of Tavropos ( Megdovas ).

The Tavropos (Greek Ταυρώπος; alternative name Megdovas, Μέγδοβας or Megdova, Μέγδοβα ) is according to sources 60 and 78 km long river in the regional districts of Karditsa ( Thessaly region ) and Evrytania (Region Central Greece ) in Greece. It flows from its redesigned by the Plastiras reservoir headwaters in the northeastern Agrafa mountains south to the Achelous, which was dammed to Kremasta Lake.

The Tavropos before impoundment of Lake Plastiras fed on ( opens into the northwest corner of the Plastiras Lake ) from the headwaters Kerasiotiko, Megalo ( opens into the west coast of Lake Plastiras at Kalivia Pezoulas ) and Karditsiotis, which at the southwest corner of the Plastiras lake just north of the dam in these discharges ( at Belokomti ). The longitudinal axis of Plastiras Lake corresponds to the course of the Tavropos from north to south.

The Tavropos after impoundment of the Plastiras Lake begins southeast of Kedros and west of Moucha at the dam of the lake. The orienting according to the south valley between the mountains Petalouda ( 1,770 m ) in the west and Pyrgouli ( 1,246 m) in the east of the Tavropos leads to his first inflow after Plastiras lake from the west, the Ozoula. This opens the Agios Georgios Monastery in the Tavropos and widens the valley to the mountainous conditions of Agrafa Mountains to a great level ( Megas Kambos ). The Tavropos pivoted slightly to the south-southeast and reaches the lying on its west bank village Anthiro. At the level of the village of Tavropos receives a small tributary from the east. A little further south meets at the village of Agia Agathi and northeast of Karoplesi the tributary Aspro on the Tavropos. This sets its course unchanged after south-southeast between the mountains Valaora ( 1,300 m ) in the east and Papadimitri ( 1,930 m) and Voidolivado ( 1,540 m ) in the west continued. Between the village Koukaika on the left and the larger village Neraida on the right bank flows from the east coming to the tributary Mouchthouri one, the one inflow from the river Sarandaporos turn receives further east. Between the Voidolivado Mountain in the north-west and the Martsa Mountain ( 1,687 m ) in the east pivots Tavropos after confluence of Mouchthouri by south-southwest and strikes due west of Martsa Summit and just south of the Voidolivado on the Lesioti River, which from the west opens into the Tavropos.

The Lesioti marked in its course the border between the regions of Thessaly and Central Greece. Thus, the Tavropos in its course exceeds this limit and flows from that position to the south in the regional district Evrytania. To the east of the mountain Xerovouni ( 1,334 m) coming from the ends of the mega cities Mesochori and Platanos in the Tavropos. This change suggests something its direction and flows with increasing meanders in the west sheet guided to the mountains with the peaks Lelouli ( 1,344 m), Spanos ( 1,411 m), Kombolos ( 1,440 m) and the projecting west summit Afti ( 971 m ) around. West of Tavropos at the level of Afti summit there is the village Mavromata that between the Prophet Elias ( 1302 m ) and the Kopsi ( 1,939 m) amphitheater located in a valley.

Southwest of the Prophet Elias and northwest of the town of Damiani flows coming from the southeast, the river Agiotriadiko in the Tavropos. The Agiotriadiko forms the northeast boundary of the Tymfristos. The Tavropos swings this confluence abruptly to the west, goes south along the Prophet Elias to the village of Dafni on the western shore, and thus marks the northwestern boundary of the Tymfristos. In the Dafni Tavropos swung again to the southwest and receives just before the village Viniani from east-southeast of the town of Stenoma Coming inflow Stenomatiotiko, which rises on the western flank of the Tymfristos. After passage of Viniani and Nea Viniani on the western side of the river with the Tymfristos massif on the eastern bank of the Tavropos is crossed by a bridge from the National Road 38 ( Karpenisi - Agrinio ). At the level of the village Dytiko Paparousi widens the Tavropos to the easternmost foothills of the Kremasta Lake. The transition between Tavropos and Kremasta lake strongly depends on the water level of the lake, and can logically to a few kilometers to the northeast (flood ) or southwest move ( low water).
