History

Over time, there have been numerous companies that have been added to the Megger group or were in any other manner in touch with her.

Evershed & Vignoles

Sydney Evershed (1858-1939) and Ernest Vignoles bought the gauges Department of Goolden and Trotter at ( the company where they both worked ) and then founded Evershed & Vignoles Limited on 5 February 1895. It is therefore likely that the beginnings of Megger company dating back to 1889. The company at that time was on the grounds of Acton Lane Works, Chiswick, London (England), where it lasted from 1903 Westbourne Park.

Sydney Evershed applied over the years several patents for various electrical devices.

One of these devices was the "Hand Dynamo". This instrument was able to generate electricity, which was strong enough to thus measure resistance in megohms range can. Thus the basis for the construction of the first insulation tester was created. The megohm meter was renamed Megger and registered in the following on May 25, 1903 as the brand name. The invention quickly became a popular method and was thus known in the 1920s under other engineers.

Due to the occurrence of electromagnetic interference, the first Megger insulation testers were built in two separate boxes. One of them was to generate electricity, which meant for other measurements. Later, the test instruments were built in a common unit. They were connected to a Bakelite case and possessed still has a foldable handle for operating the dynamo. The most well known tester was the so-called " Wee Megger ", " Meg " or " Megger Insulation Tester", which produce up to 2500 V and resistors up to 20 000 megohms could measure. ( The modern version of this device ( Megger MJ15 ) can produce up to 5 kV).

In the 1920s, the company employed about 500 people. This number rose during the Second World War to over 1000 to reach its peak with 1870 employees in 1967.

Evershed & Vignoles Limited 1965, part of the George Kent Group.

AVO

The invention of the first multimeter ( multimeter ) is attributed to a post- engineer named Donald Macadie. This had always carrying around enough of it two instruments for maintenance of telecommunications equipment with them. Therefore Macadie invented the first device that could measure both amps and volts and ohms. Consequently, the unit was therefore called AVO.

Macadie brought his idea to the Automatic Coil Winder and Electrical Equipment Company ( ACWEEC, probably founded 1923). The first AVO was sold in 1923. Although it was initially designed only as a DC test unit, many of its functions remain unchanged up to the last model.

ACWEEC later became AVO Limited and presented in the following equipment and instruments with the AVO trademark ago. The original AVO multimeter was continuously produced since its introduction in 1923. The last model was launched in 2008 by the band. The production was solely due to the ever-increasing difficulties to get the necessary spare parts set. The last model number 8, introduced in 1951, had on hand, without being fundamentally changed in the following 57 years.

AVO Training Institute

In 1963, Multi- Amp and founded the AVO Multi- Amp Institute. 2004, the Institute was then used to AVO Training Institute, Inc. with its headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The AVO Training Institute has been established to provide training in the fields of electrical engineering, particularly in relation to safety, maintenance and testing of electrical equipment or apparatus that.

In 1996, the institute has been ISO 9001 certified. To date, more than 23 000 Electricians have participated from all over the world in the areas of maintenance and testing in our courses.

The Institute also has a Technical Resource Center - an online store, books, training materials, personal safety equipment and tools offers. The training can in principle take place at various locations around the world, such as the Megger premises in Paris.

Electronics Thorn / EMI

In 1970 the company was (founded in 1936) just like others from the George Kent Group of Thorn Electrical Industries acquired who had also bought at the same time AVO Limited.

1987 the company name was changed for the first time; it was now called Megger Instruments Limited.

Today

Megger

Megger Instruments Limited had its location at the AVO production facility Dover, Archliffe Road, CT17 9EN, Kent, England. This is also the company's current location in the UK.

Due to the popularity of the AVO products, the company changed its name to AVO Megger Instruments Limited in the year 1991. 2000 the company changed its name initially as AVO International Holdings Limited, from 2002 as AVO International Limited.

Finally, the entire Megger Group in 2002 changed its name to Megger Group Limited, of which it is known today.

In the Dover facility employs around 230 employees. Total (including distribution channels ) employs the Megger Group Limited today around 1,500 people worldwide.

Based on the groundbreaking inventions that have made possible the emergence of Megger Group Limited, the two main meeting rooms are named in Dover to Evershed and Macadie.

Biddle

For many years, the James G. Biddle Company in Pennsylvania was both the United States importer of Megger products as well as manufacturers of products under its own name. 1989 Biddle began manufacturing a range of products to check the integrity of large battery systems, which later led to the development of the BITE ( eng. Battery Impedance Test Equipment) product line.

1991 Biddle, Megger and MultiAmp merged to AVO International. Today, products are sold under the name Biddle. Biddle was one of the first companies that produced commercial cable fault locating systems.

States

Megger Group Limited, part of the U.S. production facility in Dallas, Texas. The production facility in Dallas manufactures terminals and test switch under the tradename States, which has existed since the 1940s.

PowerDB

PowerDB was acquired in the fall of 2005. PowerDB developed software to assist in the testing and maintenance as well as for storing the test data, which is fully compatible with many Megger products.

Programma

The Programma Electric AB is a Swedish manufacturer of test and measurement instruments, which was established in 1976. To programmas products include: Circuit breaker test equipment, Battery Test, microhmmeter and Relaisprüfgeräte. The production facility is located in Täby, Sweden. In March 2001 Programma was sold to GE Energy and heard since June 2007 Megger Group Limited.
