Méharicourt

Méharicourt ( Picard: Maricourt ) is a northern French village with 570 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Somme in the Picardie region. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Montdidier, in the canton of Rosières -en- Santerre and is part of the Communauté de communes du Santerre.

Geography

The industrialized community in the landscape Santerre is located approximately three kilometers southeast of the immediately adjacent Rosières -en- Santerre at the junction of the roads department D131, D39 and D439.

History

In Méharicourt a Roman camp is suspected. 1135 is mentioned as the place of pilgrimage and martyrs of the Theban Legion, whose relics were exhibited in the church of Saint- Martin, known locally as Mahericourt. In 1899 there were three woolen mills with steam engines.

The community, which suffered damage in World War, was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914-1918. During World War II a German military airfield in Méharicourt was created.
