Meidling Hauptstraße (Vienna U-Bahn)

The station Meidling main road is a railway station of the Vienna U -Bahn line U4 in the 12th district of Vienna Meidling. The station and the outgoing bus lines from here constitute a major public transportation hub between the southern Rudolf -Fuenfhaus and the commercial center of the district Meidling.

Location and special features

It is located in the notch next to the Vienna River, along the Schönbrunnerstraße, between the Lobkowitzbrücke and the factory bridge. What is striking is the unusually wide central platform, which refers to the past of the station as a hub of Vienna Stadtbahn. In its present form the metro station was opened on 27 October 1980. Above the station which was built in the late 1970s and during the 2000s rebuilt the business and shopping center " U4 Center", which also houses the nightclub U4, which is closely connected with the rise to international pop star Falco.

History

The station Meidling main road goes back to the building of the light rail station Meidling main road, which represented one of the most significant art historical buildings of Vienna city railway station. It was that station in which the belt line and the Wiental were linked. It had three platforms. During the planning for the future U6 line between belt and Philadelphiabrücke the late 1970s, the then Meidlinger SPÖ district director Kurt Neiger favored a link between U4 and U6 to the station Meidling main road. A proposal, which he could not prevail. Today, after conversion to underground operation, the corresponding link will take place towards the city center, in the newly created station Längenfeldgasse.
