Meinhard Michael Moser

Meinhard Michael Moser ( born March 13, 1924 in Innsbruck, † September 30, 2002 ) was an Austrian mycologist who has acquired as a forest scientist great service. His botanical and mycological author abbreviation is " MMMoser ".

Biography

Supported by his grandfather, the botanist Emil Heinricher, Meinhard Moser studied the subjects of botany, zoology and chemistry at the University of Innsbruck and obtained his doctorate, interrupted by the Second World War and two years of captivity, in 1950 with the dissertation to water ecology of higher fungi, with special reference to forest fire areas.

In 1952, he took a research position at the Federal Forestry Research Institute in Imst, Tyrol, which he held until 1968. During this time, Moser continued his acquired knowledge in Oxford on Pilzsymbionten into pioneering work on reforestation of high altitudes. The time he developed methods to inoculate trees with ectotrophic mycorrhizal fungi are now the world standard in forestry practice. He sat in the German-speaking new standards for their determination: 1953 appeared the first edition of the " Moser ", the determination Book The leaves and abdominal mushrooms ( Agaricales and Gastromycetes ), which in the German-speaking countries is still a standard work on the provision of these fungal groups ( last edition 1983). It is part of the important scientific work lookup Small cryptogamic flora, established by the botanist Helmut Gams.

Moser habilitated in 1956 in Vegetable Microbiology and held at the Institute of Botany at the University of Innsbruck Lectures on Mycology and Microbiology. In 1964 he was awarded the title of " Associate Professor ". Due to the increasing importance of these subjects and the activities Moser recommended the Natural Sciences 1966 the Federal Ministry for Education, the establishment of a new professorship "Microbiology " at the Institute of Botany; the construction took place in January 1967. early as 1968, Moser was named " Ordinary Professor " and remained there until his retirement in 1991. Meinhard Moser was an acknowledged expert in the field of Haarschleierlinge ( Cortinarius ).

Meinhard Moser worked from 1981 until his death Director of the Research Centre for the Mediterranean flora in Borgo Val di Taro ( (PR ), Italy). The community thanked him by a road leading to his favorite forest ( stability Elle ), named after him.

Honors

In addition, according to Meinhard Michael Moser 22 species ( moseri, moserianus or meinhardii ) and two genres ( Moser Ella and Chromosera ) were named.
