Meiway

Meiway is the stage name of the Ivorian musician, arranger and producer Frédéric Desiré Ehui ( born March 17, 1962 in Grand- Bassam, Ivory Coast ).

Life

Ehuis parents are musical: his father, sales representative at a local company plays as an amateur accordion, his mother sings in the Catholic church. Both are also members of several music groups. Ehui began the age of nine, to sing at church. When he went to college at sixteen, he became friends with a member of the college band Pace. When he accompanied him to a rehearsal, he ended up as a representative of a choir singer and percussionist. He soon became a permanent member of the group. With Pace in 1978 he won the prestigious prize podium in the Ivory Coast. The group broke up shortly thereafter.

Ehui, now using the stage name Meiway, the dissolution of the group had a chance to form their own group: the Génitaux or Génitos. The eight members of the group in 1981 won again the podium prize. Toured the whole country followed. 1985 moved Meiway to Paris and founded the group Defens d'Ivoire with African, Algerian and French musicians.

Meiway has developed the Zoblazo its own musical style, he replied by traditional rhythms from the southern Ivory Coast with electronic instruments and entertainment Poetry. In addition, he also characterizes the Zouglou. He is known by the nickname Le professeur Awolowo or Le genie de Kpalèzo. Meiway ambassador in the fight against AIDS in the Ivory Coast.
