The MEKO 140 class is a class battleship of the German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG. The class is part of the MEKO ship series and was developed in the 1970s by the Blohm Voss.
History
The MEKO 140 class was the second ship of the MEKO series, after the MEKO 360 class. The concept saw ships before frigate in size, which could be easily readjusted for each customer.
The first three of the six ships of this class which was commissioned by the Argentine Espora class was the was appointed on 1 August 1979. The class corresponded to the design MEKO 140 A16. The ships were developed in Hamburg, but built in Argentina on the Rio Santiago AFNE shipyard in La Plata. Argentina classified the ships as corvettes. The first series consisted of the ships:
In 1983, a second series of ships was built. The last two ships were finally completed and delivered in 2001 due to budget problems on the part of Argentina.
