Mel Smith

Melvyn Kenneth " Mel" Smith ( born December 3, 1952 in London, † July 19, 2013 ) was a British author, comedian, actor, producer and director.

Life

During his time at the University of Oxford, he produced and directed plays. Subsequently, he was from 1979 to 1982 responsible as a writer for the satirical television program Not the Nine O'Clock News BBC2, in which he starred with Rowan Atkinson, Pamela Stephenson and Griff Rhys Jones. From 1982 to 1998 Mel Smith played with Griff Rhys Jones in a total of 27 episodes of the comedy series Alas Smith & Jones ( 1989 only Smith & Jones, in the German third programs Auweia! Smith & Jones). The title was an allusion to the Alias ​​Smith and Jones U.S. series. In the film adaptation of the novel Puppenmord based on the novel by Tom Sharpe played Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones the lead roles.

On July 19, 2013 Smith died in his London home to a heart attack.
