Mel Zelnick

Melvin M. " Mel" Zelnick ( born September 28, 1924 in New York City; † February 21, 2008 in Mayer, Arizona) was an American drummer of modern jazz.

Life and work

Zelnick played 1945 Les Elgart, Bob Chester and Scat Davis, 1946 at Herbie Fields and Jerry Wald, and then to work in the octet of Benny Goodman at Chubby Jackson and 1948. He participated also in its session in 1948 with Stan Hasselgård (At -click). He then worked with Lennie Tristano (1949 ), Boyd Raeburn (1950 ), Marian McPartland ( Great Britains, 1952), Stan Getz, Les Elgart, Pete Rugolo, Peggy Lee and Nat King Cole. In the 1940s and 1950s, he worked as a drummer for New York radio stations; He also worked in the orchestra of the New York Paramount Theater. In the 1960s, he led a music store; in the 1980s he was a district manager for the Slingerland Drum Company; next he was twenty years as a sideman for Clare Willey. Zelnick was from 1944 to 1961 to 40 recording sessions involved, including he is to listen to recordings by Fats Navarro ( The Fabulous Fats Navarro ), Lenny Hambro and Don Elliott ( 1955).
