Mélanie Suchet

Melanie Suchet ( born September 1, 1976 in Moutiers ) is a French former alpine skier. She specializes in the speed disciplines of Downhill and Super -G.

Career

Suchet won as a 17 -year-old on December 4, 1993 their first points in the World Cup with tenth place in the exit in Tignes. Your first podium she reached on 29 January 1994 place behind Isolde Kostner at the departure in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. A few days later she was again on the descent in the Sierra Nevada Second, only 0.01 seconds behind Hilary Lindh. In the 1993/94 season they finished third in the downhill World Cup third place. In her first Olympic Games in 1994 in Lillehammer, she was in the Sixth departure. The end of March, she won the gold medal in downhill in the Junior World Championships in 1994 in Lake Placid.

In the following seasons they could deny only a few races due to a knee injury, first in the 1997/98 season they managed again to connect to the world's best. On 23 January 1998 Suchet won their first and only World Cup races, the Super -G in Cortina d' Ampezzo. In addition, there followed a second place in the downhill and a third place in the Super -G. At the Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998 she missed as fourth in the downhill barely a medal in the Super- G, she was eighth. The following year, she won at the 1999 World Cup in Vail sixth place in the downhill.

Also, due to minor injuries, she could then just place more often in the top ten. At the end of the season 2001/ 02 they still managed a second and a third place in the downhill.

On 3 December 2004, she crashed on the downhill in Lake Louise at the final jump and suffered a tear of the right patellar tendon. Shortly thereafter, she announced her retirement from ski racing.
