Melchior Borchgrevinck

Melchior Borchgrevinck (* 1570, † December 20, 1632 ) was a Danish composer and Kapellmeister.

Borchgrevinck was the son of the Dutch musician Borchgrevinck Bonaventura, who was Kapellmeister at the 1587 King Frederick II yard. He was court organist in 1596 when King Christian IV in 1599 he undertook a study trip to Venice to Giovanni Gabrieli. After his return, the king had him portray - an honor which was bestowed otherwise only the most famous foreign musicians.

During the winter 1601-02 he spent again in Venice, where he enjoyed an excellent reputation. At the Madrigal collection Giardino di nuovo bellissimo vari fiori musicali sceltissimi, which he published in Copenhagen in 1605-06, he helped the madrigals Amate mi ben mio and Baci amorosi e cari. In 1607 he published 9 David Salmer med 4 Stemmer rimvis udsat.

1618 Borchgrevinck was appointed Kapellmeister to the top of the royal court, his pupil Mogens Pederson was Vice-Kapellmeister in 1619. During the Thirty Years' War, a large part of the court chapel was released in 1627 and Borchgrevinck retired to his estate in Roskilde. Beginning of 1631 he was reinstated in his former position he held until his death eighteen months later.
