The Meller Mongoose ( Rhynchogale melleri ) is a living in eastern Africa carnivore species from the mongoose family ( Herpestidae ).

Features

Meller - mongoose reach a body length 44-49 centimeters, the tail is 30 to 40 inches long and its weight is 1.7 to 3 kg. As with all Mangusten her body is elongated and the limbs rather short. The fur is gray brown on the top, the head and the bottom are brighter, while the feet darker. In contrast to most other mongooses the soles of the hind legs are hairy.

Area of ​​distribution and habitat

These animals live in eastern Africa, their range extends from the southern Democratic Republic of Congo and Tanzania to the east in South Africa. Their habitat is forests and moist grasslands.

Way of life

About the way of life little is known. You are likely to be nocturnal loner who reside mainly on the ground. To their food include fruits, termites and possibly small vertebrates. Also concerning reproduction we know very little. Observations have shown that the females in November or December should bring two or three pups.
