Melungtse

Melungtse ( Tibetan: Jobo Garu ;乔格茹 峰Chinese, Pinyin Qiáogérú Feng; different spelling: Menlungtse ) is the highest peak of the Rolwaling Himal in the Himalayas. It is located in Tingri County in the district of Xigaze of Tibet Autonomous Region, near the border with Nepal. The first ascent was in 1992 by Slovenians Andrej Štremfelj and Marco Prezlj.

The massif of Melungtse located northwest of the Rolwaling main ridge, about straddling the border between Nepal and China. The south wall of the Melungtse dominates the valley of the Melung Chu ( between Rolwaling comb and Melungtse ) on the elongated summit ridge there are two secondary peaks including the Melungtse II ( 7,023 m). The main summit closes in the northeast on this comb at.

The Menlungtse II was first climbed in 1988. Chris Bonington, head of the British expedition, was the first foreigner who had received from the Chinese government, a climbing permits. Andy Fanshawe and Alan Hinkes reached the summit on the evening of May 25, to be exceeded for about 2 kilometers from the main summit they renounced.
