Men at Sea

Man meets the Sea (Danish ved Havet Mennesket ) is a nine-meter high white concrete sculpture, made by sculptor, painter and graphic artist Svend Wiig Hansen.

The sculpture stands at Sæddinge beach in the west of Esbjerg near the Fisheries and Maritime Museum. The sculpture was given in 1994 to mark the centenary of Esbjerg Municipality commissioned and inaugurated on 28 October 1995. It has become a landmark of the city and can be seen even in ten miles away in good weather from the sea.

In the original draft of Svend Wiig Hansen in 1954, the sculpture should be placed north of Skagen Grenen.
