Menehune

The Menehune are the "little people" of Hawaii. These figures of Hawaiian mythology to be small creatures in human form who possess magical powers.

They should be spread throughout the islands of Hawaii, particularly on Kauai. One can see it but almost never because they usually hide deep in the forest and in remote locations. They are excellent builders who can accomplish true masterpieces overnight.

It keeps popping up on the theory that the Menehune not simply sprang from the imagination, but that the Menehune legend has a real historical background. The Menehune are the first settlers in Hawaii have been, who had settled 0-350 AD in Hawaii. When the island was in 1100 taken by people from Tahiti in possession, the Menehune were suppressed by the physically larger intruders. Fearing the new masters they retreated to the most remote, hard to reach places.

Historians see a connection between Menehune and the Tahitian word " manahune " which means a people with low social rank.
