Mens Sana Basket Siena is an Italian basketball club that is located in the city of Siena. The name is derived from the Latin phrase mens sana in corpore sano ( " a healthy mind in a healthy body "). Most of the club is named after its main sponsor, the bank Monte dei Paschi di Siena Montepaschi Siena. It is a largely autonomous part of the sports club Poli Sportiva Mens Sana. Home games are borne by the club whose colors are green and white, from the 7025 -seat hall Pala Sports Mens Sana.

History

Mens Sana led, according to his own statement as the first club in Italy, the basketball game, shortly after its invention by James Naismith in 1891. Yet he played until 1973 for the first time in Italy's top league. Most recently, he rose in 1994 to Serie A and has since then established itself in the top tier of the league. In 2002 he won the Saporta Cup the first title, in 2004, he won the Italian championship and the first national success. In addition, Siena was consecutively recruited in the second year to the Final Four of the Euro League. The Main Round 2006/2007 in Serie A Siena finished with a winning score of 30:4, and also during the play-offs were allowed only one defeat, so in the end was the superior Championship. In the following three years, Siena lost even the entire first round game and was not long in each master, also for the third time the team reached the 2008 Final Four of the Euro League and was eventually third place of the competition. In 2011, this success will be repeated also Siena won for the third time in a row the Double.
