Mentor Graphics is a leading manufacturer of software products in the areas of electronic design automation (EDA ) and embedded software is based in Wilsonville, Oregon. In EDA, Mentor Graphics is one of the world's largest software manufacturers and employs over 4,000 people worldwide.

History

In the years after 1980, the computer- aided design of electronic circuits and components within the scope of computer- aided engineering (CAE ) and computer-aided design ( CAD) was always present and market -determining. Mentor Graphics was founded in 1981 by former development engineers from Tektronix with the aim to provide various software products in these areas.

As the first Hardwareplattfom for EDA software from Mentor workstations of only a year previously established manufacturer Apollo were used computers. The first, introduced in 1982, EDA software product was the program IDEA 1000th

Mentor Graphics is now a global company, the product development takes place largely in the U.S., Europe and Japan. In addition there are locations in India and Egypt.

In March 2009, the company announced a merger with Valor Computerized Systems.

The main competitors in this segment were Cadence Design Systems, Synopsys and Magma Design Automation in 2007.
