Meri (political party)

Meri (Hebrew מר"י, lit Rebellion, acronym for Mechaneji radicalization Jisraeli (HES |. מחנה רדיקלי ישראלי ), lit radical camp of Israel. ) Was a party in Israel.

History

The party was in the 1960s as Haolam HaSäh - founded Koach Chadash by Uri Avnery, editor of the eponymous Israeli news and entertainment magazine, and was the first radical Party of Israel.

The party was more left- oriented and overcame in the elections in 1965 with just 1.2% the blocking clause and earned a seat in the Knesset, which was occupied by Anvery itself.

Disagreements between Avnery and Cohen caused on 4 January 1972 break the party. Cohen remained as an independent delegate in the Knesset. Avnery notified on 3 July 1973, the Party in Meri around and lost the elections in 1973. During the elections in 1977 the party went on in Moked.
