Merseguera

Merseguera is an indigenous white grape of Spain. Their cultivation is allowed in the regions of Alicante, Jumilla, Penedès, Valencia and Mallorca. She finds it way into the white wines of the DO Utiel -Requena, Alicante, Almansa, Tarragona, Vinalopó and Yecla. In the late 1990s an area under vines of 7,978 hectares was charged. In small quantities it is also cultivated in Algeria. There, as well as the grape variety Listán is mistakenly called Merseguera. Both varieties are not related to each other according to the ampelographers Aldebert

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is only to white wool felted hairy, greenish with easy rötlichfarbenem approach. The yellowish young leaves are slightly hairy.
  • The large and thick leaves are indented five lobes and deep. The petiole is U - shaped open. The blade is serrated blunt. The teeth are set moderately dilated in comparison to other varieties.

The grape ripens about 30 days after Chasselas and is thus regarded as late maturing. It provides fairly simple white wines.
