Měšice Castle

The baroque castle Měšice ( German Meschitz ) is located in South Bohemia on the outskirts of the city of Tábor in Měšice district, about 2 kilometers east of the city center.

History

In 1545 the Knights of Hejlowetz Prokop ( Prokop Hejlovce z ) ordered a Ritterhof in Renaissance style in the detectable since the 13th century village Měšice.

At this time the Prokop family of Hejlowetz belonged the communities Měšice, Tschekanitz ( Čekanice ) and Illguth ( Stoklasná Lhota ).

The Ritterhof in Meschitz was rebuilt by Johann Joseph Caretto Count of Millessimo into a baroque palace in 1699. In 1792 Johann installed Henniger of Seeberg water toilets that are operational today. Johann Schmidt graves of Lustenegg extended in 1817 the magnificent building is a stairway in the Empire style, and the exterior of the baroque palace, he provided them with an Empire facade.

When Franz Grillparzer in 1816 in the baroque castle Meschitz was visiting, he heard the legend of the Baroness Antonia von Stillfriedplatz. He used it for his 1817 published drama " The Ancestor ".

After 1877, the Baroque castle belonged to the barons of Nádherný Borutin. 1997 acquired in January Berwid - Buquoys the dilapidated building to ruins. Mesice Castle is open to the public again after a reconstruction.

Particularity

According to legend, Prokop has made of Hejlowetz in 1555 in Meschitzer Ritterhof the maid Anna walled. During the torture the accused had admitted to having stolen gold and silver jewels in the chambers of the Knight court.

After the walling of Anna but also disappeared further contain various valuable items. Later it was found that the actual thieves were magpies who stole the jewels during ventilation of apartments and deposited in their nest on the wooded hill opposite the Meschitzer Ritterhof. The maid Anna was innocent and was tortured to injustice and walled.

Chapel

The chapel of the castle Měšice was built in 1751 by Jan Antonín Votápek of Ritterwald. On 26 March 2010, the chapel was consecrated by Cardinal Miloslav Vlk of its reconstruction by the name of Saint John of Nepomuk. The chapel is open to the public and organized ecumenical services.
