Mespelbrunn

Mespelbrunn is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Aschaffenburg and a member of the administrative community Mespelbrunn based in Heimbuchenthal.

Geographical Location

The municipality is located in the Spessart in the upper Elsavatal. Through the village leads the state road 2308th

To Mespelbrunn include three districts to two districts:

  • Hessenthal
  • Mespelbrunn Mespelbrunn

The former districts Oberneudorf and Unterneudorf are now grown structurally and form the district Mespelbrunn.

Name

Etymology

The community led Mespelbrunn formerly known as Neudorf, who very often occurs in the German language area. The name is composed of the Middle High German words niuwe, which means " new" and village. The place was divided into upper and lower Neudorf. 1938, the place the name of the nationally famous water castle Mespelbrunn, whose district was 1842, the former district of Neudorf slammed. The name of the castle Mespelbrunn goes back to the source ( MHG burn ) of the cancer creek that of aspen ( MHG espin ) was stood. She got the name Espinburn, which then went to the church of the castle and later as Mespelbrunn.

History

Incorporations

The community has been formed 1 July 1972 by the merger of the former municipalities Hessenthal and Mespelbrunn.

Coat of arms

Blazon: In red the silver lock portal of Mespelbrunn, top covered with a blue sign in a silver slant bar, topped with three blue rings; in the portal opening, a growing from the lower plate edge silver Hazel branch with a nut and two leaves.

Coat of Arms History: The coat of arms was granted in 1986 and shows the castle portal of the True Family with their family crest. The hazelnut branch represents Hessenthal that of " Haseltal " is derived. Silver and red are the colors of the Kurstaats Mainz.

Culture and sights

Mespelbrunn lives mainly from tourism and is the romantic moated castle Mespelbrunn known ( developed from 1551 by Family Real ). In Mespelbrunn and waterfront castle several scenes were shot by the Haunted Castle, a German film classics from the 1950s.

Another major point of interest is located in the district Hessenthal three-aisled pilgrimage church with

  • Gothic chapel ( grave lay the Real with a Renaissance tomb of the parents and siblings of Julius Real Mespelbrunn )
  • A grace chapel with late Gothic Pieta as picture of grace and
  • With a Crucifixion by Hans ovens and a Tilman Riemenschneider ascribed Lamentation of Christ in an extension of Hans skulls from the 1950s.
