Until the completion of high-speed railway node Jungfernstieg in 1973, with a continuous transport of the U2 was possible, operated a shuttle line " U22 " between Schlump and Goose Market Metro Station exhibition halls.

In the years 2007 and 2008 the station was extensively renovated. The original design was largely unaltered.

Construction and location

The station Messe exhibition center is approximately at the boundary between the districts of St. Pauli ( Karolinenviertel ) and Neustadt. It is located at a great depth, namely, about 26 meters below ground level, making it the deepest location in Germany. The escalators are the longest in Germany, with a lifting height of about 22 meters and a journey time of around 90 seconds. The eponymous halls of the Hamburg Fair are just north of the station.

The trains stop at two adjacent platform tubes with a diameter of seven meters, which are connected together via several breakthroughs. The same construction can be found at the neighboring station geese market. To better distinguish the tube has been provided in exhibition halls with a green color stripes, geese market, however, received an orange.

At both ends of the tubes additions, they are predominantly realized as escalator and are each in mezzanines. About a funicular to the northern end of the platform, the station is barrier-free.

The distance to the station Schlump is comparatively large, with about 1.1 km for an underground line near downtown. Until the stop Gaensemarkt there are, however, only about 700 meters.
