Mestemacher is a German bakery, based in Gütersloh, Germany (North Rhine -Westphalia). The medium-sized company is a manufacturer of whole grain breads, Westphalian pumpernickel bread, cereal mixes and frozen and fresh cakes. It sells specialty breads international origin.

The Company

The Mestemacher group of companies is a niche provider of long durable bread and bakery products and cereal mixes, frozen and fresh cakes. The company currently employs 554 staff and has locations in Gütersloh, Lippstadt, Bielefeld and Aerzen. In addition to the Mestemacher GmbH the group Modersohn 's milling and baking operations GmbH, Detmers cereal whole foods GmbH and Aerzen bread and cakes GmbH are members.

The export share is 18 percent in more than 87 countries of the world including USA, France, Brazil and Croatia. The Eastern European market is served by the Polish subsidiary Benu SPZO in Poznan.

Company History

William and Sofie Mestemacher founded a bakery in 1871. In 1896, a special pasteurization was introduced, whereby the bread without the addition of preservatives reached a shelf life of up to 12 months. Beginning of the 20th century saw William Mestemacher the opportunities that resulted from the production of pumpernickel and opened in 1910, a special bread bakery. The following year, William died Mestemacher, his wife Sofie led the company from now on. In 1936, the bakery over to their sons Paul and Henry.
