Metabolite
The metabolite ( gr μεταβολίτης metabolítes " the Converted ", plural: metabolites) is an intermediate ( intermediate) in a mostly biochemical pathway.
The metabolism (including metabolism) consists of many individual series of enzymatic reactions that provide specific products. These intermediates ( each reaction step are at least a substrate and at least one product ) are called metabolites. The entirety of metabolites, of a cell at a specific point in time is referred to as the metabolome.
Metabolites that have no direct need for growth and survival of the organism are referred to as secondary metabolites.
