Météo-France

Météo- France is the state, French weather service. Predecessor organizations had existed since 1855. 's Headquarters are located in Paris, many of the domestic departments, however, were relocated to Toulouse.

Tasks

The tasks of Météo -France heard the general weather forecast, recording and archiving of weather data, long-term climate studies and the publication of severe weather warnings.

The branch in Saint- Denis, Réunion is represented by the World Meteorological Organization ( WMO) established Centre régional météorologique spécialisé for monitoring, forecasting and alerting for tropical cyclones in the southwest Indian Ocean.

The branch at the airport of Cayenne - Rochambeau in French Guiana has jurisdiction under the activities of the European Space Agency for the prediction of meteorological optimal start time for the missiles at the Kourou spaceport.

Although the office in Papeete is not an official tropical cyclone warning center, but was mandated by the WMO with the creation of weather reports for the neighboring British Pitcairn Islands.

Organization

Météo -France is an institution under public law (French: Établissement public à caractère administratif ) with a budget of EUR 283.6 million (2005), which at 54.6 % by the French State to 26.2% from the space royalties is applied to 15.7% through the sale of services and to 3.5 % from other, leveraged sources. Météo -France currently has about 3,700 employees, is director François Jacq.

The company in its current legal form under the Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning (French: Ministère de l' Écologie, du Développement durable, the Transports et du Logement ).

Météo -France has its headquarters in Paris at the address quai Branly 1 in the 7th arrondissement and since 1982 also an important branch in Toulouse, where by now about 1 /3 of the employees. In addition, branches in the capital of each department, yet including the overseas territories Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Réunion.

History

The first regular meteorological service of France was already established at the Observatoire de Paris in 1855. In 1878, a separate Bureau central météorologique (BCM ), 1920, the successor organization L' Office National Météorologique ( ONM ). The Météo- France was founded by a decree of 18 June 1993.

Spelling

The original name of the organization is Météo -France, with the usual notation in French with accents and initial capital letters. The current releases of Météo -France using only capital letters and waive accents. Both versions are internationally protected as a trademark and as a company. In some unofficial documents the hyphen is omitted incorrectly.
