Since 2006, the official title is the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss.

MeteoSwiss observed the weather around the clock, created weather forecasts and warns use authorities and the population, when storm winds, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms or heat waves threaten. It provides the economy as needed specialized weather forecasts and meets the needs of professionals and athletes from moving outdoors. In addition, it provides comprehensive weather services for the civil, military and private aviation.

In research and development projects, the scientists of MeteoSwiss committed to a better understanding of weather and climate in the Alps and maintain knowledge sharing across national borders. MeteoSwiss works with important international bodies, as well as the official representative of Switzerland in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO ) in Geneva.
