Methemalbumin

Methemalbumin is an albumin complex, which consists of albumin, and heme.

The complex is the blood plasma and the brown color occurs in hemolytic and hemorrhagic disorders.

The presence in plasma is used to distinguish between haemorrhagic and oedematous pancreatitis.

Schumm the test is used to distinguish an intravascular hemolysis of extravascular such as hemolytic anemia. A positive result is indicative of intravascular hemolysis.
