Metropolitan Nikiforos of Didymoteicho, Orestiada and Soufli

Nikiforos (Greek: Νικηφόρος ) (* as Athanasios Archangelidis 1931 in Feres, Western Thrace, Greece, † October 4 in Alexandroupolis, Thrace, Greece, 2009 ) was a bishop of the Greek Orthodox Church and Metropolitan of Didymoticho, Orestiada and Soufli.

Life

Nikiforos studied in Halki seminary on Heybeliada ( Halki ), one of the Princes' Islands in the Sea of ​​Marmara, and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 1956 he was ordained a deacon; the ordination he received in 1961. Initially, he was chaplain and secretary of the Patriarch of Constantinople Athenagoras Opel, later chaplain of the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki and Veria and professor at the Teachers College Zarifeios Alexandroupoli. Subsequently, he was a long time preacher in Alexandroupolis and chancellor of the diocese of Alexandroupolis.

In 1988, he was elected Metropolitan of Didymoticho, Orestiada and Soufli.

Bishop Nikiforos died of an incurable disease. He is buried on 6 October 2009 in the Church of Panagia in Eleftherotria, Didymoticho.
