Metropolitan Stadium

The Metropolitan Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota. The stadium was built in 1955 and served until 1985, the various sports teams in Minneapolis. On 28 January 1985, the demolition in favor of the new Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome followed. On the site since 1992, is the Mall of America.

History

The stadium was opened in 1956 and served initially as a new home stadium for the baseball team Minneapolis Millers. It took time still 18,000 spectators, was a short time later, however, already expanded to 22,000 spectators. 1961 based the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings stadium, after the Millers had dissolved. Together, the capacity was increased to 30,000 places.

The stadium was constantly enlarged and raised to its eventual capacity. In between, also included the Minnesota Kicks for five years, the Metropolitan. In 1985 it was finally, after both teams were already four years earlier moved to the built in Minneapolis Metrodome, demolished. On the grounds of the stadium was built in the Mall of America. A memory board has still point to the former stadium.
