Metrovías

Metrovías, S. A. is an Argentine transport company that since 1994, the subway ( Subte ) in Buenos Aires, the corresponding Premetro and the railway Ferrocarril Urquiza operates. Metrovías S. A. among 90 percent of the company Benito Roggio SA.

History

End of the eighties, the then Argentine President Carlos Menem decided the bulk of state-owned enterprises, as well as the subway of Buenos Aires and the suburban railways to privatize. Which entered into force on August 18, 1989 Act 23 696 laid the regulatory framework necessary for the privatization of companies. Finally, the executive branch defined by the Article 13 of Decree 2074/90, signed on 3 October 1990, the use of concession for the services of Subterráneos de Buenos Aires SE. By this decree, signed by the President Carlos Menem, the lines of the subway and the Premetro were awarded to twenty years. Those who wanted to use it had to offer the railroad Ferrocarril Urquiza.

In total, six different companies competed. Ultimately, Benito Roggio e hijos won S. A. the concession. companies with Come Trans SA, Burlington Northern RR Co., Morrison Knudsen Corporation Inc. and S.K.F. SACCIFA the consortium Metrovías S. A. formed.

The handover of the Subte and the Ferrocarril Urquiza took place on 1 January 1994. The concession includes the possibility of tariff increases for improvements to the service or from inflation reasons, but not the expansion of the route network, go its planning and execution at the expense of the city of Buenos Aires. In 1999, the concession was extended until 31 December 2017.

2004 withdrew the Argentine government to the transport company Metropolitano, which had previously operated the route Ferrocarril General San Martín, due to quality defects, the concession. Together with the two other private companies Trenes de Buenos Aires and Ferrovías, operate the suburban railways in Greater Buenos Aires, Metrovías formed the provisional operating company Unidad de Gestión Operativa Ferroviaria de Emergencia ( UGOFE ) to temporarily take over the operation on the track. 2007 Metropolitano government withdrew the rights for the other two to be operated routes ( Ferrocarril General Manuel Belgrano Norte and Ferrocarril General Roca ), which are operated since May 22, 2007, our of the UGOFE.

2007 promoted Metrovías S. A. 262.6 million passengers in the Subte and Premetro and 25.8 million passengers on the Ferrocarril Urquiza.
