Metz–Luxembourg railway

The railway line Metz- Luxembourg is an international railway line between Luxembourg and France. It runs almost north-south direction, is 72 km long and was taken in 1859 in operation. Since 1956, the route is electrified. On her run both trains of transport as well as the TGV. Even before the Second World War there was on her a sleeping car between Munich and Strasbourg -Metz - Luxembourg -Calais.

History

Concessionaire of the line was the Wilhelm- Luxembourg Railway Company (GL ) after the Agreement signed on June 10, 1857 treaty between France and Luxembourg had issued the operation of an international railway. The section between Metz and Thionville was already on 16 September 1854 in operation, the remaining distance to cross the border until five years later.

Operation

At least hourly public ( tactless ) trains between the two countries. In France is responsible for the transport of persons of the TER Lorraine, which performs this track under the track number 1, in Luxembourg, the Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL ) runs on the track 90 within the two countries, the clock is denser.
