Mevinphos is an active ingredient for plant protection products, it is a chemical compound from the group of organophosphates or phosphoric acid esters.
Production and representation
Mevinphos can be obtained by reaction of trimethyl phosphite with Perkow methyl-3- chloroacetoacetate.
Properties
Mevinphos is a colorless in pure form, as a technical product pale yellow to orange, very difficult flammable liquid with a faint odor, miscible with water. The technical product consists of about 60 % of the cis isomer. It is fairly stable in neutral and acidic medium, but rapidly hydrolyzed under alkaline conditions.
Use
Mevinphos is used as an insecticide and acaricide. It acts by inhibiting cholinesterase.
The substance was not added to the list of approved in the European Union crop protection active ingredients in 2002. In no EU country pesticides are approved with the drug mevinphos.
