Meziboří

Meziboří ( German Schönenbach ) is a city in Okres Most, Czech Republic. The city is situated on the steep southern slopes of the Ore Mountains between Litvinov ( Upper) in the south and the highest mountain in the Ore Mountains, the Loučná ( Wiesel stone, 955 m) in the north.

History

The first information comes from the year 1398. Schönenbach belonged to the realm of the Lords of giant castle. 1653 lived here three farmers and 17 cottagers who cultivated cereals, roof shingles, wood and charcoal manufactured. 1891, the first paved road to Oberleutensdorf, Fleyh ( " Butterweg " ), Long Meadow ( Steinweg ), George valley and to Göhren ( smugglers ) were built. These routes have been re- opened today for hikers.

In 1937 Schönenbach 56 houses and 304 inhabitants. The German inhabitants were expropriated in 1945 and sold. 1949 training facilities and accommodation for young families were then built. The harsh living conditions in the mountain area were the cause of the slow growth of the population until the 1950s. 1960, the place has been named 4000 inhabitants to the city. Today Meziboří is one of the cities in the Czech Republic with the lowest average age of the population.

The city is a starting point for hikers and skiers.
