Mézidon-Canon

Mézidon- Canon is a commune with 4972 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ), which is situated in the Calvados region and the region of Lower Normandy. It belongs to the district of Lisieux and the Canton Mézidon- Canon.

Location

Mézidon- Canon lies between the rivers and Dives Laizon, about equidistant from the north Cabourg, Caen in the northwest, Falaise in the south and Lisieux in the Northeast.

History

The municipality was established on September 9, 1972 by the merger of the newly previously independent municipalities Mézidon and Canon.

Mayor ( Maire ) since 1995, François Aubey. He was re-elected for the term 2008-2014. The place is a member of the Communauté de communes de la Vallee d'Auge.

Twinning

Mézidon- Canon is twinned with the English town of Honiton and the German community Gronau.

Economy and infrastructure

Mézidon- Canon is about 25 km south-east of Caen on the department D47 road. The distance to Lisieux is about 28 km to the northeast. In Mézidon- Canon there is a station on the route Caen - Lisieux, here is the branch toward Argentan.

Attractions

The Castle of Canon built in the 18th century. Also in the district of Breuil, there is a castle, which dates from the 17th century and its surrounding area is known as Parc et jardins du Château de Canon.
