MFS (Label)

MFS (acronym of masterminded For Success ) was an independent German record label based in Berlin, which primarily are published music in the field of electronic music. Founder of the label is the Berlin-based British artist Mark Reeder. MFS is one of the most important German trance label.

On MFS and the two sub-labels Flesh and Telemetric appeared since its inception in 1990 over 200 albums, EPs and singles by artists such as Dr Motte, Paul van Dyk, Cosmic Baby, Mike van Dijk, Humate, Joe T. Vannelli, Ellen Allien, Denki Groove, DJ Clé and Marco Zaffarano.

History

MFS was founded in December 1990 by Mark Reeder and Mirko Whitfield as a sub-label of the eastern German record labels Berlin ( DSB). The inspiration for the name of MFS was shipowners in their own words in the abbreviation of the Ministry of State Security .. A short time later, Matt Craver and Torsten Jurkschat joined the team.

The first recording contracts awarded Whitfield and Reeder Rocky One, Gundi B, Paul and Johnny Klimek Browse (Effective Force ) the DAF singer Gabi Delgado - Lopez and Saba Komossa.

The first release was Rocky One 's Take You Back (MFS 001). Soon came the first releases of Effective Force Diamond Bullet as (MFS 003) or Delgado and Komossa than 2 German Latinos with the single Viva La Droga Electronica! (MFS 006). Even with these early publications, MFS positioned as one of the most important German trance label. In the spring of 1991, the collaboration with the musicians Mike van Dijk, Cosmic Baby and Paul van Dyk began. From the collaboration of Cosmic Baby and Paul van Dyk the project The Visions Of Shiva, The Perfect Day to and How Much Can You Take? Was two early hits of the genre produced. The track Love Stimulation by Humate initially remained only to initiates known, and did not develop until after the re-release by Jive Records in 1998 in the UK hit.

In 1993, the German records Berlin was handled and sold the remaining rights to the BMG. Mark Reeder and Torsten Jurkschat formed a company and bought back the MFS catalog after Mirko Whitfield and Matt Craver had previously resigned from the label. In early 1994, they then moved to a new office at Leuschnerdamm to 19 in Berlin Kreuzberg and won Rough Trade as a new sales for the label. Personnel they received reinforcement by Frank Blumel and Ulf Israel.

While Mark Reeder took care of the extension of the catalog, Torsten Jurkschat concentrated on building the artist Cosmic Baby and Paul van Dyk. Torsten Jurkschat organized the first album tour of a techno artist in Germany for the album release Stellar Supreme by Cosmic Baby as a live act, and Paul van Dyk as a DJ. The tour was a great success and Torsten Jurkschat decided to establish the MFS booking agency, after the hand -offs, the artist had only limited success to other booking agencies.

After Cosmic Baby MFS had left in 1994, Paul van Dyk became the most important artists of the label. To be the label and artists meet potential, Torsten Jurkschat sought after amplification in publishing. Negotiations with Hartwig Masuch fertilized in the edition MFS, which was administered by the BMG.

The first two Van Dyk albums published 45 RPM (1994) and Seven Ways (1996) and numerous singles with increasingly international bookings on MFS. With For an Angel Van Dyk also produced one of the most famous tracks in the scene, which, however, only on the album 45 RPM appeared on MFS. The successful single release later appeared on British label Deviant Records.

1997 shared Mark Reeder and Torsten Jurkschat on the rights and of the company and as a result left Van Dyk MFS to start his own label Vandit. Between Mark Reeder and Van Dyk took place in the sequence to a legal dispute over the question of the release of their third album, Out There and Back.

After 1999, shipowners increasingly distanced from the trance scene and devoted himself increasingly to techno. This was reflected in particular in the publication policy. In addition to techno and house Corvin Dalek and Kama arts projects like Berlin Mitte Boys appeared ( Jürgen Laarmann, DJ Clé, Mike Vamp, Hugo, Robbie and Thomas Ramstedter ), mainly with a cover version of the title New York City Boy came from the Pet Shop Boys in appearance and disbanded after only one plate.
