Mia De Vits

Mia De Vits ( born March 31, 1950 in Gooik ) is a Belgian politician for the Socialist Party Party Other ( sp.a ). She was from 2004 to 2009 Member of the European Parliament.

Life

De Vits studied social sciences at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and graduated in 1971 with a master's from. Afterwards she worked until 1973 as a freelance journalist at the Vlaamse Radio -en Televisieomroep (VRT ).

1973 De Vits policy associate at the Belgian General Federation of Trade Unions ( ABVV / FTGB ), from 1984, whose association secretary, was from 1989 to 2002 its General Secretary from 2002 to 2004 as the first woman whose chairman. She was also from 1989 to 2004 Member of the Executive Committee of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU ) and also a member of the Executive Committee of the European Trade Union Confederation ( ETUC).

2004 De Vits was selected as the top candidate of the sp.a in the European Parliament. She was a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament and the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and the Delegation for relations with India. They also held the office of Quaestor.

Since 2006, Mia de Vits is a member of the council of Gooik.

End of January 2009 gave De Vits their departure from the policy known.
