Mia Mia, Victoria

As Mia Mia is called both a small town and a region in central Victoria, Australia. The town is located 119 kilometers north of Melbourne and 56 kilometers south of Bendigo. There is also a large farmland area, are grown in the cattle and sheep. Furthermore, it belongs to the wine region of Heathcote with numerous wineries, one of which grow most shiraz vines.

History

Burke and Wills came in 1860 on their expedition across Australia from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria through the area. They reached Mia Mia August 25, 1860 and there built their sixth camp after leaving Melbourne. They rested a Day - a Sunday - before they moved on to the north. The road from Lancefield by Mia Mia Ben hole and the Great Dividing Range is now called The Burke and Wills track.

The Post Office as a sign of municipal solid opened on 22 November 1861. In 1970 it was closed.

In Mia Mia is the sheep station Spring Plains of the father of John Robertson Duigan. John built there with his brother Reginald Duigan in 1910, the first flight-worthy engine aircraft in Australia. A monument at the southern end - built from a locally occurring blue stone - reminiscent of the first flight.

The western boundary of Mia Mia is adjacent to the Campaspe River, which is crossed by the peculiarly designed Ironbridge.
