Mianserin is like the analog of mirtazapine, a drug from the group of tetracyclic antidepressants.

While the older tetracyclic substances - except mianserin itself esp. nor maprotiline - compared to the tricyclics did not represent a significant advance in safety and efficiency, the newer version mianserin, mirtazapine as a representative of a separate action type ( NaSSA ) was called.
