Michael Apted

Michael Apted, CMG ( born February 10, 1941 in Aylesbury, England ) is a British director of films and documentaries.

Life

Apted studied law at Cambridge and then worked as a researcher, first for British television Granada TV. Over time, he became the television director recognition and awards (including the British Emmy ). He landed a first success in 1974 with the feature film Stardust, which traces the incredible rise of a rock band. The international breakthrough came in 1980 with Coal Miner's Daughter (German Coal Miner's Daughter ) was awarded the Best Actress Oscar for Sissy Spacek.

Apted is a versatile filmmaker, who is praised for its accurate characterization. In his films, he does not shy away from quieter social criticism, what the public success of his films but does no harm. Among his works are so diverse films as Nell (1994 ), a portrait of a troubled, neglected young woman, The World Is Not Enough (1999 ), a James Bond action movie, as well as The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader ( 2010), a fantasy film.

As a documentary filmmaker Apted was primarily known for the "Up Series", in which he documented the lives of 14 people over several decades. After the first part of Seven Up! , Which was created in 1964, directed by Paul Almond ( Apted was responsible for the selection of children ) was born every seven years under Apted directed another sequel.

Michael Apted was from June 2003 to July 2009 President of the Directors Guild of America.
