Michael Christoph Hanow

Michael Christoph Hanow (also Hanov, Hanovius; born December 12, 1695 in Zamborst to Pommern ( Samborsko ), Pomerania, † September 22, 1773 in Danzig) was a meteorologist, historian, Mag phil. Professor of Mathematics and in 1717 Rector of Academic Gymnasium Danzig.

Hanow studied in Gdansk and Leipzig and was a tutor in Dresden, Leipzig and Danzig, before accepting a position at the 1727 Academic Gymnasium Danzig. He wrote numerous articles and books, which were located in the city of Gdansk library. Since 1739 he published Danziger news and a weekly magazine with weather forecast. The term biology goes back to him. 1745 and 1767, he published Jus Culmense, the complete Culmische law ( Kulm law), and a collection of Prussia, hitherto unpublished, documents.

With Georg Daniel Seyler, Gottfried Lengnich and David Brown, he was one of the main regional historians of the 18th century.
