Michael Crawford (historian)

Michael Hewson Crawford FBA ( born December 7, 1939 in Twickenham ) is a British historian and numismatist. He is the editor of the standard works on the coinage of the Roman Republic, Roman Republican Coinage (RRC ).

Michael Crawford has been teaching at the St Paul 's School and at Oriel College, Oxford. He was a Fellow at Christ College in Cambridge in 1964. From 1969 to 1986 he was a lecturer in Ancient History. In the years 1986-2005 he taught at University College London, where he is professor emeritus since 2005. His scientific work deals with the Roman Republic, the coinage of the Roman Republic and the sources of ancient history.
