Michael E. Soulé

Michael Ellman Soulé ( born May 28, 1936 in San Diego, California) is an American biologist and became known as the representative of the idea of ​​conservation biology.

Soulé received his Ph.D. in Population Biology at Stanford University with Paul R. Ehrlich. He was later Research Professor ( Emeritus) in Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The title of his dissertation was evolutionary and population phenetics of the side -blotched lizards ( Uta stansburiana and its relatives ) on the islands in the Gulf of California, Mexico. Soulé was co-founder of the Society for Conservation Biology and is part of the Board of the Round River Conservation Studies and The Wildlands Project.
