Michael Krüger (writer)

Michael Krüger ( born December 9, 1943 in Wittgendorf ) is a German writer, poet, editor and translator. He's since July 2013 President of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts.

Life and work

Michael Krüger grew up in Berlin. After leaving school he served an apprenticeship as a publisher in the Herbig -Verlag. The same time he was a guest student in philosophy at the Free University of Berlin. From 1962 to 1965 he worked as a bookseller in London.

From 1968, Kruger worked as an editor at the publishing house Carl Hanser Verlag. In 1986 he was the literary director of the publishing house in 1995 and Managing Director. At December 31, 2013, and resigned from his successor Lendle Jo stepped to the management. In 1973 he founded in Munich together with Martin Gregor- Dellin, Jürgen Kolbe, Fritz Arnold, Paul Wühr, Inge Poppe, Christoph Buggert, Günter Herburger, Tancred Dorst and Peter Laemmle, the first cooperative Author bookstore.

His own literary work was initially limited to prefaces and epilogues to anthologies and anthologies, which he edited. In 1976 he released his debut, a collection of poems Reginapoly. His first story entitled What to do? . appeared appeared 1984 1991 - a year after his novel The end of the novel - his first of the previous three novels, The man in the tower.

In July 2013 he was elected by the members of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts for their president. He replaced Dieter Borchmeyer.

Michael Kruger lives in Munich.
