Michael Lord

Michael Nicholson Lord, Baron Framlingham ( born October 17, 1938 in South Manchester ) is a British politician. He was a member of the Conservative Party in the House of Commons and is currently serving as a life peer in the House of Lords.

Youth and pre- parliamentary career

He studied at Christ's College, Cambridge, where he earned an MA in 1962 in agriculture. From 1962 to 1966 he was a teacher at a school in North Bedfordshire. From 1966 to 1968 he was Director of Power Line Maintenance Ltd. .. In 1968 he founded the Lord's Tree Services Ltd. .. From 1983, he was in addition to his deputies activity of agricultural consultants. He was president of the Arboricultural Association.

Political career

He was from 1974 to 1977 Councillor in the town of Bedford, and between 1981 and 1983 in the Bedfordshire County Council.

He stood as a candidate in the parliamentary elections in 1979 in Manchester Gorton constituency and scored his first mandate in 1983 in the constituency of Central Suffolk.

He was from 1997 Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, therefore, gave no political statements and did not take part in voting. Prior to assuming this position, he belonged to the group of the Maastricht rebels and was classified as conservative, was against homosexuality and advocated the reintroduction of the death penalty.

He was knighted in 2001.

He lost his seat at the general election of 2010.

On 19 November 2010 it was announced that he would be elevated to a Life Peer and will move in for the Conservatives in the House of Lords. It was introduced in the House of Lords on January 18, 2011. He bears the title of Baron Framlingham, his alternate name is Lord Lord.

Personal

In 1965 he married Jennifer Margaret Childs, with whom he has a son and a daughter.
