Michael McClure

Michael McClure ( born October 20, 1932 in Marysville, Kansas) is a poet and playwright.

He moved at a young age to Seattle and developed an interest in nature which is also often reflected in his poetic works. After moving to San Francisco in 1955, he experienced a shock to a certain extent, and he had to adapt his natural feeling new.

McClure is one of the five ( including Allen Ginsberg with " Howl " ) in 1955 at the Six Gallery reading took part. McClure read to his work "For the Death of 100 Whales ", which shows his love of nature and is committed to the protection of whales. Together with Gary Snyder, Philip Whalen and Lawrence Ferlinghetti it is counted to the San Francisco Renaissance and the late writers of the Beat Generation.

McClure also developed a musical vein. Together with Bob Neuwirth is the author of the song Mercedes Benz, the Janis Joplin sang. With The Doors McClure was connected. Jim Morrison asked him in 1968 to a meeting, after having read The Beard. From aversion in the first moments of a conversation quickly developed. McClure encouraged Morrison later was to publish his own poems. Also with the organists of The Doors, Ray Manzarek, a long-standing friendship and after 1988 also repeated collaborations linked him among others, Spoken Word projects.
