Michael Morris, 1st Baron Killanin

Michael Morris, 1st Baron Killanin, of Galway in the County of Galway, Baron Morris of Spiddal in the County of Galway, Baronet Morris of Spiddal PC QC ( born November 14, 1826 in Galway, † September 9, 1901 in An Spidéal ) was an irish- British politician and jurist, the deputy in the House of Commons, and most recently as a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, due to the Appellate jurisdiction Act 1876 was as a life peer and member of the House of Lords.

Life

Lawyer, Member of the House of Commons and judges

After schooling Morris graduated in law at Trinity College ( Dublin) and was after his legal approval in 1849 as an attorney. In 1857 he was recorder ( magistrates ) of Galway. For his lawyer merits him the title of a 1863 Kronanwalts (Queen 's Counsel ) was awarded.

On 11 July 1865 he was elected a deputy in the House of Commons and took this by 31 March 1867 constituency Galway. During this time he was first Solicitor General of Ireland in 1866 and then 1866-1867 Attorney General ( Attorney General ) of Ireland.

In 1867 he joined the judicial service and was judge of the court for general complaints of Ireland ( Court of Common Pleas for Ireland ) where he most recently 1876-1887 President ( Lord Chief Justice of Common Pleas for Ireland ) was. For its local merit, he was appointed on 14 September 1885 Baronet Morris of Spiddal. Upon completion of this activity, he became judge in 1887 successor of George Augustus Chichester May as Chief Justice of Ireland ( Lord Chief Justice of Ireland ) and has held this position until his replacement in 1889 by Peter O'Brien.

Lord Justice, House of Lords Member and Descendants

Last Morris was appointed in 1876 as a life peer with the title Baron Morris of Spiddal in the County of Galway as a member of the House of Lords to the peerage by letters patent dated December 5, 1889 due to the Appellate Jurisdiction Act and worked until 1900 as Lord Justice (Lord of Appeal in Ordinary).

Following him the hereditary title of Baron Killanin, of Galway has been awarded in the County of Galway on 15 June 1900.

While his death extinguished the life peerage as Baron Morris of Spiddal in the County of Galway, the title of Baron Killanin passed to his son Martin Morris.

After his death, the nephew of Martin Morris, Michael Morris was 3rd Baron 1927 and was best known for his work as President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC ) By 1972 until 1980. His son, the film producer Red Morris, since 1999 4th Baron Killanin.
