Michael Nunn

Michael Nunn ( born April 14, 1963 in Davenport ( Iowa) ) is a retired American boxer.

Amateur

Southpaw Nunn won 168 amateur fights at eight defeats. In 1983, he took a third place at the U.S. Championships. In 1984, he lost against Virgil Hill, whom he had beaten me, the decisive battle in the preliminary round at the Olympic qualification.

Professional

He became professional in 1984 at middleweight and won his first thirty fights, until he was able to win against the undefeated Olympic gold medalist Frank Tate the IBF middleweight title by TKO in round nine on 28 July 1988. He defended in a row against the highly respected veteran Juan Roldán and beat Sumbu Kalambay even in the first round KO. Against Iran Barkley, he won narrowly on points, then he beat the former welterweight Marlon Starling and Donald Curry. In his sixth title defense he met on 10 May 1991 on the then-unknown James Toney and lost his title surprisingly, on points clear leader in the eleventh round technical knockout.

He then moved up to the super middleweight and won on September 12, 1992 debate against Victor Cordoba 's WBA title. The direct rematch he won clearly, and then defended the WBA title against Ashley Crawford and Merqui Sosa, but lost him in February 1994 to the unknown Steve Little. Trying to regain the title in December 1994 in Ecuador against Frankie Liles, ended in a point defeat. In February 1993 he also won the IBF super middleweight world title fight against Danny Morgan ( USA) in Mexico City after a technical knockout in Round 1

Then he stepped into the light heavyweight and denied on March 21, 1998 in Max -Schmeling- Halle, Berlin against Graciano Rocchigiani one last title shot, but was again defeated on points. His last significant victory succeeded him in 1999 against William Guthrie. In 2002, he finished his career.
